The Matrix Paradox

In the movie, The Matrix there’s a famous scene where Keanu Reeves says to Lawrence Fishburn, “Are you telling me I can dodge bullets?” and he replies, “I’m saying that when you’re ready... you won’t have to.”

So, spoiler alert if you’re one of the very few people on the planet who have not seen this movie. There’s a scene near the end where Keanu slows a barrage of bullets until they stop in mid-air.

We love stories like the Matrix because we secretly long for this kind of freedom and power. What’s amazing is that we really do have this power on subtle levels, and we can use it to make the difference between a life filled with futility or a life where we master our reality.

In his book “Thinking Fast and Slow,” Daniel Kahneman explains our two thinking systems.

In System 1, we move very quickly and do things easily and automatically.

In System 2, we slow down to a deeper process but get significantly more powerful results.

System 1 is where most people live, and it is like riding a 10-speed bike in first gear. Without realizing it, they are pedaling furiously and moving slowly, wasting time and burning energy. System 2 is where people who have mastered their lives live. Like riding that 10-speed bike in 8th gear. They are pedaling slowly and yet consistently building speed, momentum, and power.

So, it’s a paradox. By moving slowly, you can significantly speed up. It’s counter-intuitive, and most people don’t have the fortitude for the patience and focus required to do this, while the truly successful players know that this is what builds their legacy.

That’s what I do with my clients. I help them build the inner strength to move slowly and create something truly great.

Many people are in a chaotic rush and building castles out of playing cards, and we all know how that’s going to turn out. However, for those who want to create something that stands the test of time and takes on a life of its own, there is another path.

The question is, which pill are you going to take… the Red one or the Blue one? Let’s find your inspiration.
