Are You An Expert Curator? Maybe It Is Time to Get Started

"A life accumulates a collection: of people, work, and perplexities. We are all our own curators." – Richard Fortey

Growing up, I thought being a curator was a boring job that only the dullest people would choose to pursue – someone who worked in a stuffy museum surrounded by paintings of dead French politicians and bowls of fruit. What I have discovered is that I was completely wrong.

These days my definition of a curator has expanded to become really badass because it's all about being resourceful. And unknowingly, I became an expert curator. The more and more I became aware of this insight, the more vibrant my life became. It continues to impact me and my business as I curate new experiences, connections, and knowledge.

I have conversations with people across various industries, disciplines, and fields of thought because it helps me understand what works, what doesn't, and how all the pieces fit together (I call them curiosity conversations). These conversations expand my understanding and give me new mental models to apply in future situations.

I am a voracious reader of topics such as art, architecture, history, science, and business because it activates my mind and gives me powerful new perspectives on how things are designed to succeed.

I am always getting involved in new initiatives, taking new classes and certifications, and joining new communities because they give me new tools for old problems, new contexts for how humans work, and new inspiration for what is possible.

And, of course, there is traveling and experiencing new cultures and societies that run on completely different models than our own. So yeah, I would say I am an expert curator, and one of the things I love about it the most is that I don't have to have all the answers. I have enough experience at this point to know that any answer I need already exists in some form, and I can be resourceful enough to find it.

Being a great curator is like being the MacGyver of your own career. Life has become an ever-unfolding adventure, and that is what I teach my clients to do. In truth, I do a lot of this for my clients because the better I get, the better they get as well. I love a game where everyone wins.

If you are ready for a little more fun and success in your own life and business, then let's have a conversation.
