Rebel Leader with a Heart: Are You Climbing the Right Mountain? with Tony Martignetti

Since the pandemic, a lot of people got in touch with their fragility and mortality. That has led towards what is now known as “the great resignation”, where a huge number are either resigning or thinking about changing jobs. In today’s podcast, I will talk with fellow podcaster and inspired purpose coach Tony Martignetti to find out if you are climbing the right mountain, how you can find clarity in your life…

Look Through A New Lens

LookGuide

I recently discovered a book that had me see things through a new lens, or a few different lenses, to be more accurate. Jim Gilmore, author, professor, and co-founder of Strategic Horizons created a helpful tool to help us perceive our world. In his book, Look: A Practical Guide for Improving Your Observational Skills, Gilmore took his inspiration from Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats method to introduce the metaphor of ''six looking glasses.'' Each looking glass represents a particular skill …

The Collision of Divergent Ideas

LUX

There has been a recent trend in the art world that has the physical and the digital worlds colliding in a beautifully immersive experience. I have always enjoyed the collision of divergent ideas to make something new, but this is something that really allows us to see what happens when we bring things together to create something magical. This photo is from a new exhibit in London called LUX: A New Wave of Contemporary Art. Whether you are an art-nut like me or just a casual observer, it is cle…

Make It A Masterpiece

CreativityPaintbrush

How is your life like your favorite painting? How is it different?

I have been thinking a lot about the creative process lately and how in the day-to-day rush to get things accomplished, we separate our creativity from the way we live our lives. Maybe that works if we are going for robot-like productivity. But it's terrible for our deepest, truest selves.

That's because we are all wired for creativity. And when we leave that out, we are leaving out a big part of who we are. We are leaving out …

Hidden Patterns

GeometryNature

I have got something radical to say. We often don't make choices. We just follow the patterns that have had us survive and get by, and for a lot of people, that's what brought them to their current level of success.

However, what most people don't realize is that is often where the pattern ends. It did its job, and it got them to a level of survival where they could be comfortable.

This means, to get to the next level, a whole new pattern is required.

In case you didn't notice, there is a…

Celebrate Your Wins

photo-1533551037358-c8f7182cdb79

One of the best things about my work is that as my clients evolve, so do I. And that can sometimes be humbling.

One of the things I talk about is celebrating our wins. It’s so important to do this AND... it’s something I’m still working on for myself.

I will accomplish something that others would see as impressive and then notice the voice in my head that says, “Yeah, well… it is what it is. No big deal…Let’s move on to the next thing.”

And that’s a trap because when we accomplish somethin…

Fall Season Paradox

FallSeason

The Fall Season is kind of a paradox for most of us. We begin gearing up for the holidays; there are social obligations and celebrations to attend, school is in full swing for those of us with kids, we start thinking about holiday gifts and get-togethers, we try to figure out how to balance work and life.

Around us, at least in my part of the country, Nature is slowing down. The leaves start to fall off the trees, and many plants go dormant to rest for the colder months, the weather cools down,…

What is Your Little Island?

Little-Island-NYC

This is Little Island NYC, an artificial island park in the Hudson River west of Manhattan in New York City. It sits on the site of the old Pier 54, which Hurricane Sandy destroyed in 2012. It was designed by Heatherwick Studio and primarily funded by billionaires Barry Diller and Diane von Fürstenberg.

Built on 132 concrete pilings, Little Island is a welcome addition as the city emerges from the pandemic and is starving to connect to nature and the arts, which are both on display here. My fir…
